Client Challenge

A recent client in the marine industry approached us with a specific need. Their project involved cooling equipment in a confined space with strict environmental regulations. The client was concerned about the global warming potential (GWP) of the refrigerants used, as well as the efficiency of the cooling system under varying load conditions.

While our standard R134A and R410A refrigerants are highly effective, they were seeking a solution that offered a lower GWP without compromising on performance. The client requested the use of R32 or R1234YF, two refrigerants known for their lower environmental impact.

Our Solution

Understanding the clientโ€™s concerns and regulatory requirements, we proposed a customized cabinet air conditioning unit utilizing R1234YF, a refrigerant with an ultra-low GWP of less than 1, significantly reducing the environmental impact compared to traditional refrigerants. Additionally, R1234YF is non-flammable, making it an ideal choice for the confined and safety-sensitive environment on a ship.

We also offered the option of R32, which, while having a slightly higher GWP than R1234YF, offers superior energy efficiency and cooling capacity, making it an excellent choice for applications where maximum performance is critical.

Implementation and Outcome

After evaluating the pros and cons of both refrigerants, the client chose to go with the R1234YF option. We customized our cabinet air conditioner to accommodate the specific properties of R1234YF, ensuring that the unit met all performance expectations while adhering to environmental regulations.

The result was a successful installation that not only met the client’s cooling needs but also contributed to their sustainability goals.
